Reading and Resource Lists

A guide for academic staff on Reading and Resource Lists

New Books (or new editions of current library collections)

3 simple steps to add new book stock to resource list (& library collections)

  1. Use the Cite It! button. You can add new resources from Amazon, publisher websites, etc.(Remove the URL so it's flagged up as a new resource & not a link to be checked in review process) and add to specific resource list
  2. For items where you can't use the Cite It! button add these using the Manual Entry option
  3. Give the item a tag to indicate importance

MAKING SURE YOUR NEW REQUEST HAS BEEN SUBMITTED

If your list has been published already the resource will automatically be sent to the library for processing and the citation should say 'Library Processing' in the bottom right corner,

A sample citation which has the library processing status. This status is visible on the bottom right-hand of the citation and is highlighted.

If your list hasn't been published yet new additions will appear as Draft (this should only be if you have created your list yourself as all new lists created by the library will be published by default)

A sample citation which has the draft status. This status is visible on the bottom right-hand of the citation and is highlighted.

To send your list to the library for processing/to purchase new resources click the My List is Ready button on the right-hand of the top banner, you will be given the option to publish your list at the same time (which we recommend you do!)

A cropped view of the banner which appears at the top of an unpublished reading list which hasn't been send for review. The image shows only the option to view list as student and the my list is ready option.

Once you have sent your list for review and/or published it the citation status will change to Library Processing

The same sample citation which previously had the draft status. The status now reads as library processing.

Once the library has finished purchasing or completed any digitisations the citation will be set to Complete. It may take a little time for electronic resources/additional copies to be added to the citation after it has been set to Complete. the library doesn't hold the article I'd like added to my resource list?

Follow the instructions for Digitisation

the list isn't appearing on MyDundee?

There could be a number of reasons for this:

  1. Has the list been published? Only published lists are visible/available to students.
  2. Our Resource List software gets information feeds from MyDundee for module codes/module collaborators. Has your module code changed? For the list to be visible on MyDundee the module code on MyDundee and Resource List software needs to match. Check the module code on

Leganto Reading List Software

The list for DJ32005 viewed from the Leganto reading list side. The mouse hovers over the shortened course code on the top bar of the resource list. A box has appeared below the shortened code to show the full course code and title, and the staff associated with the course.

I've just added all my resources to the learning materials in MyDundee

  • Avoid adding PDFs directly onto Learning Materials in MyDundee. This is a copyright infringement. Please ensure that the University of Dundee has access to the e-resources you are using.
  • Sharing your own PDFs may also have a negative impact on students with sight or reading disabilities who require the use of screen-readers to engage with material. The library can ensure that resources provided in a digital format are compliant with screen-readers.
  • The Resource List software is designed to avoid breaking copyright. You can use shareable links or embed items/section from Resource List software instead.

A leganto citation with the share symbol to the right-hand side of the citation highlighted.

  • Links and PDFs can be difficult to relocate in learning materials. Items are organised in Resource List for students to use effectively and efficiently.
  • Library staff review Resource List content to ensure links work.
