Reading and Resource Lists

A guide for academic staff on Reading and Resource Lists

Review

Most resource lists in Leganto (as of January 2025) will be published automatically upon creation. This will mean that when you add new items to your list these will be immediately sent to the library for processing without the need for you to submit these for library review. This means that we can begin working on requests right away and are less likely to miss requests that academic staff forget to submit for review.

In some cases you may still need to submit your list for review. This will only apply if it's a new list that you have created  using the instructions here.

How to tell if your list has been published and sent to the library

Your list has been published when you can see the published list status at the top of your list

Cropped view of a sample reading list showing only the top bar. On the top bar the list shows as published and this is highlighted.

If your list is published when you add a new item to your list it should have the Library Processing or Complete status (the Complete status is automatically applied if an electronic copy of the item is already held/subscribed to by the library).

The Library Processing status means that Library Staff have received the request and will:

  • check resource links for access & hard copy availability
  • new titles will be ordered
  • digitisations will be organised

Items marked Complete will still be checked to ensure that there is ample coverage where we only have limited ebook licenses

How to tell if your list is not yet published

Lists which are not yet published will have the Draft list status and will have a banner along the top of of the list letting you know that your list is not yet published and currently not visible to students

When you add a new item to your list this may also appear as Draft status (electronic content will still automatically have Complete status), this means that they haven't yet been sent to be checked by the library.

To send your list for processing click the My List is Ready button on the banner along the top of your list.

A cropped view of the banner which appears at the top of an unpublished reading list which hasn't been send for review. The image shows only the option to view list as student and the my list is ready option.

You will then be given the option to publish your list, we recommend that you do this so that if you want to add anything else to your list this will be sent to us for processing automatically.

The pop-up box which appears when you click my list is ready. The box reads send list to library the library will review your list. There is then a check-box which gives you the option to also publish the list to students.

Once you have sent your list for review (and published it!) you will see that items that were previously marked as in draft mode will now be changed to Library Processing

The same sample citation which previously had the draft status. The status now reads as library processing.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T PUBLISH MY LIST

If you don't choose to publish your list when you send it for review you can publish it later. Until your list is published the banner will appear at the top of the screen.

To publish or send additional changes click on my list is ready to notify the library. at the end of the banner there is an option to view the list as a student would see it and the my list is ready button.

The library will also check periodically for any lists which are unpublished and for which materials have not been sent to the library and ensure that these are published and new requests received.

Final checks

Double check that your List appears correctly on MyDundee!

MyDundee modules page for a sample course with the link to the course's reading list circled in red.

Access Resource List via Library Resources folder in your module. Make sure:

  • Resource List is visible to students
  • & Resource List opens to correct list

If list doesn't open, it could be that the module code on the Resource List software is incorrect. Get in touch with resources@dundee.ac.uk for help
