Referencing an image for your health promotion poster (2nd year adult nursing module)

Referencing images can be tricky. Images cannot be used freely. Copyright applies to images, that's why it's so important to reference/cite as normal or at least acknowledge where you downloaded images from. Here are some guidelines and examples:

1. Image has an author and details of image

Antti (2024) Sun icon symbol. Available at: https://stock.adobe.com/images/sun-icon-symbol-simple-shape-logo-flat-weather-sign-vector-illustrati on-image-isolated-on-white-background/318922210 (Accessed: 17 June 2024)

cite (Antti, 2024) under image.

2. Image has no author or details on webpage

Try to put details of image so the marker can identify image on webpage.

Oh My Blog by Superdrug (2021) Image of woman applying sunscreen to face: Sunburn: the risks and remedies. Available at: https://www.superdrug.com/blog/wellness/sunburn-remedies/ (Accessed: 17 June 2024)

No author?

3. Image found in journal article/book but with no separate details of image

Available at: https://doi.org/10.1007/s11063-020-10364-y.

Cite (Thurnhofer-Hemsi and Domínguez, 2021) under image.

4. Image used from Stock Images in Word, Powerpoint, Clipart - (make sure you click on Free clipart)

These images do not require a reference, but acknowledge these images on your poster

  • if all images used are these types of stock images then under reference list acknowlege images e.g.

All images from MS Word Stock images (17 June 2024) OR All images from Clipart https://clipart.com/ (17 June 2024)

  • if some images are referenced/cited (like above) and some are stock images, then for the stock images, add the acknowledgement under the individual image e.g. MS Word stock image (17 June 2024) OR Clipart https://clipart.com/ (17 June 2024)

5. Not enough room on your poster for all your image references?

You could try adding the reference or link underneath each image and adding disclaimer underneath Reference List e.g.
