View your feedback and grade

What is it?

Once the grades are released, you can see your feedback, which may include one of more of:

  • Bubble comments
  • In line comments
  • Rubric/Grading form
  • Overall text comments
  • Overall audio comment
  • The final mark
Remember to read all the comments, feedback. Do not just look at the final mark. You need to understand what you did well, and the areas in which you could improve. Use the areas for improvement to help you with future assessments, do not see them as "what you did wrong this time"

What should I know?

Step 1: To view the feedback for your assignment, select the assignment you wish to view and click Launch from the side panel.

Step 2: You can find your grade in the grade column next to the similarity score.

Step 3: Click the Grade to open up the paper with the feedback and grade layer active.

Step 4: The screen should look similar to this - we will look at the different features.

  1. If the right hand box isn't visible, click the blue speech bubble
  2. If a rubric has been used on your work, you'll see a blue link here (more about in step 5)
  3. This is a "Quick Mark" , it is a default comment. Click it to see more detail, and, in some cases extra information from the tutor. (see step 6)
  4. This is a bubble comment. It's something the tutor has written specifically for your work. Click it to see what it says.
  5. Sometimes work might be struck through to indicate that the content isn't necessary.
  6. This is a text comment, they are usually short comments, so that the page doesn't look too cluttered. These, like the Quick marks and bubble marks are usally near, or linked to (as is the bubble comment just above this), specific items.
  7. If you have a voice comment, you'll see a small player. Click the play icon to hear it.
  8. The overall comment. This usually covers the work as a whole.
  9. If you find the similarity colours distracting when you are looking at the feedback you can turn the similarity layer off.  - click the red box above the no., and it should turn black, as this is.
  10. If you want to download the commented work for your records, then select the download arrow. (more about that in step 7)
  11. THis is your overall mark. Most work at Dundee is marked out of 23. (more about the 23 pt scale in step 8)

Step 5

  1. Click View Rubric - it will open in a 2nd window
  2. The blue boxes show which items on the rubric the instructor has selected
  3. If you see a bubble with a number in, then it means that one or more of your bubble comments or quick marks is linked to an item in the rubric. You can click this to see them, or, look back at the previous screenshot, and you'll see 2 of the comments have a small grid in them, showing they are linked to an item in the rubric.

Step 6 Click on a bubble comment or a quick mark to see more detail. In this case, you can see the grid showing that the comment also links to one of the criteria (Knowledge in this case) in the rubric.

Step 7

Make sure you have the feedback layer visible, (you probably do at this stage). You may wish to reenable the similarity layer (just click on the red number to do that) as well. Then select "current view". Turnitin will create a pdf for you to download, this includes information about the work (when you submitted etc), will show the areas that are similar, and the locations of the comments. After the main body, you'll see the sources that the similar items matched to, and the details in the comments.
It will also show you the rubric if used.

If a voice comment is used, it will let you know one is there, but can not give you the content.

Step 8

The final mark is usually out of 23. Every module should have a link to the University of Dundee Assessment Scales. Ask your instructor or Advisor of Studies if you are not sure how this works.
