Having issues with Questionmark and can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Don’t worry, we’re here to help!
The Questionmark assessment system may be used for in person, invigilated class tests and exams on campus where a student is required to answer multiple choice style (automatically marked) or short answer style questions. This assessment system is also commonly used for coursework and remote online exams – see our guide on taking your Questionmark assessment if it will not be an in person invigilated assessment.
For more general guidance, please see our guide on preparing for an invigilated online assessment.
The first thing to note is that you DO NOT login to the PC with your own details. For every invigilated Questionmark assessment a login instruction sheet will be placed in front of the PC and a username and password to login to the PC will be provided in Stage 1 of the instructions.
The PC login details will change for each assessment you take, so make sure you check the sheet every time.
Once logged into the PC, you will need to double click on the 1. QuestionMark icon on the desktop. When prompted to sign in, type in your University of Dundee credentials (your own username and password).
Locate the assessment beginning with SECURE and your module code at the start of it. Do not click on the start button until instructed to do so by the senior invigilator. If you don’t see the correct assessment listed at this stage, try clicking on My Assessments in the left-hand menu, and if no change report this to an invigilator.
When instructed to do so by the invigilators, click on the start button ONCE (in the Actions column) and wait for the assessment to open. Please be patient as the assessment may take a moment to load. There may be more than one Questionmark assessment available to you so be sure to click the start button on the correct assessment. If presented with a Questionmark Secure pop-up message, click Open.
Launching the assessment will start the timer. Once the assessment has loaded, your time will immediately start counting down. Your time remaining will be displayed at the top right of the screen throughout your assessment.
Before starting to answer any questions, read the instructions provided on the first page.
We use two main template styles which control how questions are presented in QMOD assessments:
In this layout questions are presented to you one at a time and you use the Next and Previous buttons to move between questions. The Assessment Navigator allows you to select a question in an assessment without having to navigate through questions one at a time. Clicking on the assessment navigator button will bring up the assessment navigator dialog, where you can scroll through the questions available in an assessment represented as numbers.

Unless otherwise instructed, you can answer questions in any order you wish (you don’t have to answer them in the order presented to you), and you can change any answers as long as you have time remaining (if applicable) and haven’t exited the assessment.
If you would like to familiarise yourself with this layout (commonly used in exams), please access our Student Example Assessment (One Per Screen). (Access to the example assessment is anonymous and answers are not recorded.)
You can use the flag button (to the right of the Assessment Navigator button) to remind yourself to return to a specific question. In order to clear the flag icon, click back on the question that is flagged and click on the flag button to clear it.
In this layout all questions are presented to you at one time on the one page and you use the mouse or keyboard to scroll up and down the page.
You can answer questions in any order you wish (you don’t have to answer them in the order presented to you), and you can change any answers as long as you have time remaining (if applicable) and haven’t exited the assessment.
If you would like to familiarise yourself with this layout, please access our Student Example Assessment (All on One Screen). (Access to the example assessment is anonymous and answers are not recorded.)
There are some basic accessibility options available at the top right-hand side of the screen. You can increase and decrease the font size and enable/disable high contrast mode to suit your own requirements. If you choose any of these options they will stay this way for the rest of the assessment, or until you choose to change them.

If you think you may require the use of assistive technology, you should visit the Disability Services website well in advance of your assessment.
The assessment will automatically submit once the time limit is reached. If you are finished before the time limit is reached and you’re sure that you’ve finished, click Submit and then select Yes to confirm. Click the Close button at the bottom of the screen. You will be asked to confirm ‘Exit Questionmark Secure Browser?’ – you should select Yes.
You will then be returned to the Questionmark Secure Launch Assessment screen. If you close this tab you will be prompted to press Refresh.
Press the F11 key on your keyboard and then close the window.
Do not logoff your PC until told to do so by an invigilator and do not attempt to login to your normal account.
