All you need to know about the EndNote reference management software

What is EndNote?

EndNote is software for managing references. It has three main features;

  •  Capturing references of journal articles, books and other resources from literature searches
  •  Managing and organising your references in your personal EndNote Library of references
  •  Insert references from your EndNote Library into Word documents, essays, dissertations etc. These can be inserted in a variety of standard referencing formats including Harvard, Vancouver, Chicago, APA, MHRA and Oscola
  • Synch with up to 3 devices including Iphone and Ipad
  • Share and collaborate with colleagues

EndNote Desktop is available free to all staff and students from the managed University Desktop on campus (Apps Anywhere) or downloadable for home use.

Before downloading software, please check that your laptop/PC/Mac/device is compatible with the latest version of Endnote. 

Compatibility: Check your computer systems to see if they are ready to install EndNote. 

 

Note 1: If you have a Chromebook you will only be able to use the EndNote Online (Basic) account.

Note 2: If you are using a NHS laptop you cannot download Endnote desktop. Use Endnote Online (Basic) account instead.

Note 3: If you are using an ipad set up an EndNote Online (Basic) account. Then sync with Endnote App on Ipad. https://clarivate.libguides.com/endnote_training/endnote_ipad_iphone

If possible, we recommend using Endnote desktop, but Endnote online is available too.
