Resource Lists

A guide for academic staff on Resource Lists

Top Tips for creating vibrant resource lists

Creating vibrant resource lists can impact students' engagement with learning materials and reading practices.

  1. make the list manageable for students - limit the amount of resources you add for each module. If the list is too long, it puts students
  2. tag each resource as essential, recommended, further reading so students can prioritise their work
  3. add the most important readings at the top of the resource lists. Students are more likely to engage with materials at beginning of module and tend not to scroll down on screen.
  4. add student notes explaining the importance/relevance of resources
  5. edit resource lists every year to ensure most up-to-date and vital resources are included
  6. check how many hits each item has. If minimal hits, remove them from list.
  7. is your module distance learning? Or is it running during placements? Only add resources that are available electronically through UoD subscriptions
  8. Lead by example - if you require the students to only use resources within last 5-10 years, make sure that the resources added are within the same date range.
  9. consider releasing resources week by week to avoid overwhelming students
  10. consider embedding individual resources and/or sections into MyDundee learning materials
  11. check the analytics at the end of each module to assess which resources have been used by students.
  12. check if Resource List is actually available on MyDundee module
