Resource Lists

A guide for academic staff on Resource Lists

Books and journals available in printed versions only

You may across some resources that we have in hard-copy only but you require a chapter or article in electronic format so students can access the information:

BOOKS
  • Where books are tagged as ‘Essential’ in the Resource lists the Library will try to obtain an E-book.

  • It may be possible to supply some traditional ‘Textbooks’ in E-textbook format – typically providing a 12 month E-copy to each student on a module. Please contact llc-resources@dundee.ac.uk if you would like to investigate this option.

  • We may be able to supply single digitised chapters for some print books where we do not have online access. A digitization may be requested from within the Resource list (Open the citation and complete the Digitization request form).

JOURNAL ARTICLES
  • we may have the article in hard-copy format or it may not be part of our journal subscriptions

How do I request digitisation?

In your resource list, click on the title of the item you want digitised. (Remember to make sure that the item isn't available online already).

Scroll down to Digitization request

Fill in the details that you require (Remember you can only request 1 chapter from a book or 1 article per journal part/issue)

The Resource List Team will be in touch with you if there are any problems obtaining a digitisation of requested book chapter or journal article.

If you require any help with digitisation, please contact llc-resources@dundee.ac.uk

Films and other resources held in DVD format

Pre-Covid, copyright rules allowed for the showing of a film/dvd owned by the University Library to students in a lecture theatre. The same copyright rules can be applied to showings made in MyDundee (Blackboard). If you wish to explore this option for students on your module, and screenshare a live showing of a DVD through Blackboard you will need to consider the following:

  • Please check whether the film is available in our subscribed online service, currently Box of Broadcasts,  as new content is added regularly
  • You will need to ensure your equipment can play a DVD (an external DVD drive can be requested from IT via Help4U)
  • If you do not own a copy of the required DVD, you can request to borrow the item from the library by emailing llc-resources@dundee.ac.uk Please make clear in your request that the item is required for live streaming, how long the DVD will be required for and whether you will be using the click and collect or postal service.
  • Assistance on the process of screensharing in Blackboard is available here

Please note the copyright restrictions below

  • Screening should be limited to teaching staff and students registered on a particular module only
  • Screening should be arranged for a defined time or times (taking note of students in different time zones)
  • Only use platforms which are closed loop and password protected, such as Blackboard
  • Students must be made aware that they are seeing the film as part of their module, and that they must not record the film while it is being streamed
