Corporate governance and accounting information - International

Corporate governance and accounting information, including company owner, strategic aims, board of directors, etc. can often be found on the company's own website under a tab or footer menu called something like "Investor Relations", "About Us" or "Our Business".

Most countries have a system where companies have to be registered. The websites below can help you locate company information using these company registers. The Wikipedia page about business registration also has a large number of useful links, and includes information about whether a country's company register can be searched online.

Company information from the the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Open Corporates [Global]
Large open-access database providing company information from businesses around the world.
Other non-UK Registries [Global]
List of company registries in some non-UK countries, collated by the UK Companies House. Many of the websites provide content in English and the language where the registry is based.

Business Source Complete provides access to over 1 million company profiles. Use the 'Source Type' filters to narrow your results to company analysis reports such as SWOT analyses and industry profiles.

Business eResources from the National Library of Scotland
Students and staff living in Scotland can register with the National Library of Scotland, and access their databases online. These include
- D & B Hoovers (profiles of 120 million global companies, market research and business news)
- Frost and Sullivan (global market analysis for chemical, energy, environmental and building technologies, healthcare, IT and manufacturing sectors)
- IBISWorld (UK market research reports, including statistics, analysis and forecasts, risk ratings, and business environment profiles).
British Library Business and IP Centre
The British Library's industry guides provide useful links and recommended resources for various business sectors.
MARCH 2025: The British Library also previously provided online access to various databases and other electronic resources. However, following a cyberattack on the British Library, these are not currently available.
