Membership of the Library

Your Library Card

University of Dundee Library card

You will be issued with a membership card and is used to access our libraries. 

The date on the card as shown above is the expiry date for your membership.

Joining the Library will allow you to - 

  • use of our library sites
    • please note that access to the Robertson Trust Medical Library in Ninewells Hospital is only available if you have joined under our agreement with NHS Tayside
  • borrow up to 6 Standard Loan books excluding 1 Day and 7 Day Loan books and all Multimedia items
    • please note, not all membership categories convey borrowing or request rights.
  • place up to 4 requests on Standard Loan books already out on loan or at a distant site.

Please note that your physical membership card is required to gain access our libraries - we are unable to accept digital copies of this for entry and exit to the library and visitors passes are unavailable for this category of membership.  

Your library account

Your Library Account keeps track of your loans and requests.

You can check it via one of our self-service kiosks or via our website https://www.dundee.ac.uk/library/.

To sign in to your account you need a Library username and password - this was supplied by email when your application for membership was approved.

You should change your password the first time you log in; please note that this cannot be done at a self-service kiosk. The new password must be at least 8 characters, and must include at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, and one numeric digit.

Using WiFi in the Library

Use of the fixed PCs in our libraries is restricted to students and members of staff from the University of Dundee.  

If you are a student at another university you may be able to use Eduroam to connect to the internet on your own device. This may need to be set up at your home institution first.

Members of the public can access the public network - The Cloud on your own device.

Walk in Users

Members of the public who join the Library can access a subset on our electronic resources when in the library building only.

Please note that there is no general internet access, e-mail,  word processing or printing available from our Walk-in user PC.

  • Some electronic resources, particularly legal content, some online books and e-journals are not available due to licence restrictions.  If you are directed to a University of Dundee login page, this item is not available for you to view.
  • Copyright law applies to E-resources, and activity on this device may be monitored by the University as permitted by UK legislation.

The list of Walk In User resources may be amended from time to time and without notification. Resources must be used for educational purposes only.
