Having issues with Questionmark and can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Don’t worry, we’re here to help!
Once you have finished creating your questions in QMOD, you will then want to bring these together into an assessment that can be delivered to students.
If you don’t have a Questionmark OnDemand account at this stage, please see our getting started with QMOD guide which steps you through how to get access.
When it comes to naming your assessments, try and think about how to identify these clearly. Here is some key guidance to follow:
Once logged in to Questionmark OnDemand (QMOD):
In a basic assessment, there will be one question block where all questions are added. We are currently working on a guide to introduce multiple blocks of questions into your assessments, and will add a link here once this is complete.

The Assessment team will carry out a final check of the assessment Settings (5) upon receipt of a scheduling request (to ensure it matches the information provided) prior to publishing the assessment and scheduling it to students.
In order to try-out and test your assessment, you may want to edit a couple of the assessment settings. Select Settings (5):
Once finished building your assessment, remember to click Save & Exit.
We use two main template styles which control how questions are presented to students in QMOD assessments. When creating an assessment you can select a specific template (Settings -> General). Details of our default UoD templates can be found below.
Prior to publishing and scheduling an assessment, the Assessment team will double check that an appropriate template has been selected.
In this layout all questions are presented at one time on one page and the mouse or keyboard is used to scroll up and down the page.
Questions can be answered in any order (they don’t have to be answered in the order presented), and answers can be changed as long as there is time remaining (if applicable) and the assessment has not been submitted.
If you would like to familiarise yourself with this layout, please access our Staff Example Assessment (All on One Screen). (Access to the example assessment is anonymous and answers are not recorded.)
To make use of this layout, you can select the “1 UoD Scrolling QNumbers – QMDefault20” template for your assessment.
If you have specific question numbering entered into the question wording (e.g. 1ai, 1aii, 1aiii) and don’t want the default numbering to display, you can select the “2 UoD Scrolling No QNumbers – QMDefault20” template for your assessment.
In this layout questions are presented one at a time and the Next and Previous buttons are used to move between questions. The Assessment Navigator allows any question in an assessment to be selected without having to navigate through questions one at a time. Clicking on the assessment navigator button will bring up the assessment navigator dialog, where questions in the assessment are represented as numbers.
By default, questions can be answered in any order (they don’t have to be answered in the order presented), and answers can be changed as long as there is time remaining (if applicable) and the assessment has not been submitted.
If you would like to familiarise yourself with this layout (commonly used in exams), please access our Staff Example Assessment (One Per Screen). (Access to the example assessment is anonymous and answers are not recorded.)
To make use of this layout, you should select the following template for your assessment:
If you have specific question numbering entered into the question wording (e.g. 1ai, 1aii, 1aiii) and don’t want the default numbering to display, you can select the following template for your assessment:
In order to schedule an assessment to students, questions and assessments must first be published. This is not something that staff have access to do in QMOD, however this is part of the process the Assessment team carry out before scheduling your assessments to students.
You should be aware that if you edit a question or assessment after it has been published by the Assessment team, you will need to request that the question/assessment is republished. Only the last published version of an assessment is delivered to students.
Check out the Questionmark support site for lots of advice and information. You may need to sign up for a Questionmark Communities/Support account in order to access the information.
The steps outlined above will enable you to create a basic assessment in QMOD. Before the assessment is published and scheduled to students, you should review our guide on testing your assessment in QMOD.
