Citing and Referencing

Endnote

We recommend EndNote for reference management software. You have full access to this product as a member of staff or a student at University of Dundee. EndNote will help you keep track of your reading, and also helps you create citations and references. You can learn more about EndNote on the EndNote LibGuide.

MyBib

MyBib is a free online tool that can help you create references. It is much more basic than EndNote, and can be useful when you only have a few items to reference and want a quick and simple tool to assist you in creating a reference list.

You must check all references generated by MyBib against the referencing style you have been told to use in your assignment. MyBib is a useful starting point for a reference list, but the references may have bits of information missing, or may need edited to fully match the required style.

Library Search reference generator

Library Search includes a reference generator.  You should be aware that references generated by Library Search often need a lot of editing as the coding used in the library catalogue software doesn't match with the information needed for referencing.  They can be a useful starting point, but you should carefully check them again the requirements of your referencing style.

Find your source in Library Search and click on the citation button:

The Library Search citation button is only visible after clicking on a sources' title. It is amongst the icons below the details of the source.

Select your referencing style, and then click "copy citation to clipboard":

Paste the reference into your work and edit it to match the referencing style:
