Student Services 14 Day Countdown: Day1

A guide for students in self-isolation

Day 1: Getting started at university

A warm welcome to the University of Dundee.

In line with current legislation you might have to be in self-isolation for the next 14 days but that doesn't mean you have to be lonely or fed up while isolating. There's no point in just sitting in your room being bored like the girl in the picture. If you do, this is going to be a long 14 days!

So, what can you do with your time?

We know it's difficult to come from another country and have to isolate in a place you don't know, so we've put this guide together to give you something to do during your self-isolation. To help make your days a bit more interesting, over the next two weeks we'll be offering things you might like to do to keep your self busy and to maintain your health and mental wellbeing. As well as finding a bit more about your University.

We'll also be reminding you about important tasks you need to do and suggesting some ways to make new friends. Some will be 'must do'  or 'should do' tasks and others, we hope you will find, are just for fun!

There will be a new themed page released every day for 14 days.

At all times you should follow the current  Government COVID19 guidance

Fun stuff!

What can you do with a bunch of towels?

Image of white towels

Have a competition in your household to see who can make the best towel animal of course - what else would you do!

Watch these videos to learn how it's done.

No towels were harmed in the making of these videos!

Mystery box!

The answer is Greek!

That will probably make no sense to you at all right now but it will later in the week.

Tasks list

Now we get to one of those 'must do' tasks.

Have you completed all the essential and legal  things you have been instructed to do, either before you arrived or on arrival?

Make sure you've ticked all your administration type tasks off your list. Not the most exciting job but nevertheless an essential one. This is as good a time as any to get all these out of the way then you can relax knowing you've ticked them all off.

Use the checklist below to get you started thinking about the key tasks you have already completed or still need to add to your 'To Do List'. We've not listed them all so you'll need to compare to your own list of things to do.

Try this quick quiz to find out how good you are at finding information on the University's web pages, such as how to make life fun and still be responsible when you're staying in Residences, and other things you need to know as a new student in residences.

We will not collect any personal information from your responses but you will need to login using your University username and password.
