A guide to using PressReader to access thousands of newspapers and magazines

What is PressReader?

Our University of Dundee subscription to PressReader offers students and staff free access to over 7,000 newspapers and magazines from over 120 countries,  in over 60 languages. 

  • UK titles range from broadsheets such as The Guardian, Daily Telegraph and the Independent, to the tabloid press. 
  • Magazine are available in a wide range of subjects : News & current affairs, Computing, Fashion, Health & Fitness,  History, LGBTQ, Travel and many others
  • Coverage is back to 2004 where available.
  • To access, click PressReader and Go to Sign In, choosing Library or Group, and select the University of Dundee, followed by your usual username and password.
  • A PressReader App is also available, for mobile devices.  Choose Library or Group, as above.  

 

PressReader on a PC

  • On a PC, to search for titles, start in 'Catalog'.  If you want to filter to particular countries or languages, scroll down to Publications, and on the right hand side you will see filter options.
  • Use the three dot menu at the top right of the PressReader screen to select options such as Accessibility mode,  changing the interface language and organising the titles of newspapers and magazines. 
  • Click on a newspaper or magazine.  You can view and read the current issue, or previous issues by clicking on the Calendar link. You can also to listen to the text. Other options, such as translating the whole publication into another language,  are available from the three dot menu on the top right of the reading screen.

PressReader on an App

  • On the App, select Browse, and you can use the dropdown filters for countries and languages to select publications.
  • Click on the date below a publication to access earlier issues via the Calendar 
  • Use the Settings icon to view a range of options for Reading, including translation preferences.
  • Click on a title to begin reading it, and you will then see a range of options, via icons along the bottom of the screen, including having the publication read to you, or translated.

  • Tap the Heading of an article to open it, and use the three dot menu (lower part of screen) to see translation and other options.
