Research Services is a division of the Library Academic and Cultural Services Directorate and our remit is to provide support based on these key themes:
We can also provide information about ORCiD, intellectual property and copyright, ResearchFish and the provision of DOIs for data and publications.
We provide training and support on how to use Discovery Research Portal, the University of Dundee's digital repository. Pure is the software that underpins the portal.
It provides a comprehensive source of information covering all aspects of the University’s research activities and outputs, in a single location.
Types of written content range from peer-reviewed articles and conference papers, books, chapters and theses. Where possible, a full-text version of the work is made available for download.
In addition, research datasets, images, multimedia, software and other types of research activities can also be recorded, deposited and shared publicly.
Policies which govern the use of the Discovery Research Portal.
Welcome to the University of Dundee!
Look out for an email to your University of Dundee email address from Research Services inviting you to an induction session on Open access, REF and the University's Institutional Repository, Discovery Research Portal.
We'll meet you virtually via a Teams meeting during a time that suits you.
Need help adding your back catalogue of research outputs to the research portal?
We can do this for you!
Staff and postgraduate researchers can request tailored training sessions for individuals and groups. Please get in touch and we'll arrange this for you.

Many publishers and most funders (as a condition of your grant) mandate an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID).
Research Services strongly advise you get one to distinguish yourself from other authors with the same name as you.
Did you know your research outputs in Discovery can be pushed out to ORCID? Our LibGuide, Persistent researcher identifier system: have you heard of ORCID®? has further information.
Make sure you take your research with you wherever you may end up in the world!
Did you know researchers are now expected to produce a Data Management Plan (DMP) by both Research Funders and their institutions?
Need advice on the following?
Email Discovery@dundee.ac.uk to make an appointment with Philippa Sterlini for more support and help.
For further information go to our Research Data Management webpages.
PhD and Research Masters at the University of Dundee are required to submit one digital copy of their thesis to Discovery Research Portal upon completion of their final examination and once all corrections have been approved. Prior to archiving, the Thesis Deposit Agreement (TDA) must be completed by the student in collaboration with their supervisor. Failure to do so may delay the validation of the thesis.
Thesis information - things to consider:
Have you already published the work? Yes.
Does the thesis contain 3rd party copyrighted material? Yes.
Are you likely to want to publish the thesis in any format in the future? Yes.
Does the thesis contain sensitive, confidential or commercially valuable data? Yes.
Try Altmetrics Explorer for Institutions (or Alternative metrics) which complements traditional metrics such as 'times cited' counts displayed in databases like Web of Science and Scopus. Measure how your research is making an impact in social media and the Web.
